Fall Bike Week 2011
Join all the other Santa Cruz County cyclists October 3rd-9th to celebrate
the wonderful world of bicycle commuting. This year is shaping up
to be better than ever with at least one exciting event or goodie-give-away
each day.
Check out our "Bike
Week Schedule" in order to see when you can bike by and
pick up a free popsicle from the Penny Ice Creamery, a free acai
bowl from Samba Rock Cafe, coffee from the new Staff of Life, or
a free spin class voucher from the Bike Dojo.
The 24th Annual Santa Cruz County Bike to Work/School Day
will be on Thursday, October 6th. Join the thousands
of cyclists stopping by one of the over fifty breakfasts sites around
Santa Cruz County in order to pick up free food, coffee, bicycle
maintenance help, and possibly even a refreshing massage on your
way to work or school. Click the "Breakfast

Task force outlines changes for bike safety on Mission
Street
Efforts to make Mission Street safer for cyclists as well as create
alternate routes that keep bikes off the busy Westside thoroughfare
are beginning to take shape, according to a report released Monday.

Drive Safely in Construction
Work Zones
The Federal Highway Administration reports that there was a 50%
increase in construction work zone fatalities between 1997 and 2004,
making work zone safety a growing roadway concern. Santa Cruz County
has no shortage of work zones these days. The Community Traffic
Safety Coalition wants to remind all road users to use caution and
stay alert in work zones. More...(PDF

Tool Available to Help Pedestrians
A Pedestrian Access Report program is available to Santa Cruz County
residents. The report, developed by the Community Traffic Safety
Coalition and the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission
(SCCRTC), allows community members to report obstacles or hazards
that may be encountered during pedestrian travel such as cracked
sidewalks, sidewalks blocked by vehicles or overgrown vegetation.
In addition the report can be used to indicate gaps in the sidewalk
